Earth Day 2024: Reflecting on Progress and the Path Ahead
To commemorate Earth Day in 2024, we are pausing to reflect on our collective journey toward environmental sustainability. Originating in 1970, Earth Day has grown into a global movement, underscoring the significance of preserving our planet and nurturing a balanced relationship with nature. At Toshiba, we champion eco-friendly solutions that not only support sustainability objectives but also enhance efficiency and reduce business costs.
Toshiba’s Commitment to Sustainability
Since the inception of the Toshiba Toner Recycling Program in 2008, we have prevented more than 1,775 tons of e-waste from ending up in landfills. Through our partnership with the renowned recycler Close the Loop, representatives of Toshiba’s EcoSmart Toner Recycling Program collect and transport empty toner cartridges to Close the Loop’s zero-waste-to-landfill facility for materials recovery. These recycled materials are then reintroduced into the commodities market for further use.
Global Reforestation Initiatives
In collaboration with PrintReleaf since 2016, Toshiba has played a pivotal role in replanting 173,723 trees across various regions worldwide, including the United States, Madagascar, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Ireland, Canada, France, Brazil, and India. Clients of Toshiba have the opportunity to select reforestation projects based on location or alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. For every 8,333 sheets printed by a Toshiba client, a new tree is automatically planted in a certified reforestation project. PrintReleaf works closely with SGS International to certify forestry partners and projects, ensuring the 100% net survival of trees according to the PrintReleaf Standard.
