March is replete with celebrations, awareness, and acknowledgement of all the incredible contributions women have made throughout history. In March we observe Women’s History Month, Gender Equality Month and International Women’s Day. The incredible achievements of women, in both business and society itself, have greatly impacted virtually every aspect of our lives.

Gender Equality Month provides an opportunity to amplify marginalized voices, celebrate diverse experiences, and uplift the stories of those who have paved the way for progress. It’s a time to recognize the resilience and courage of individuals who have challenged the status quo, shattered glass ceilings, and advocated for justice and equality.

“It is important to note that gender equality is not just a women’s issue; it’s a human rights issue’,” says Kim Jones, Vice President Human Resources, Toshiba America Business Solutions. “It is about ensuring that individuals of all genders have equal opportunities, rights, and access to resources, regardless of societal expectations or stereotypes.

“Toshiba has amazing employees who contribute daily to the success of our company,” Jones added.  “We believe that diversity of thought that comes from bringing together employees from diverse backgrounds to include but not limited to gender, race, ethnicity, is essential for the success of any company.”

Education and awareness are powerful tools in the fight for gender equality. Gender Equality Month encourages dialogue, learning, and critical reflection on issues related to gender, power dynamics, and social justice. By engaging in conversations, sharing resources, and promoting allyship, we can mobilize communities and drive meaningful change towards a more equitable world.

International Women’s Day 2024

Celebrated on March 8th, the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is “Inspire Inclusion”.

International Women’s Day is a global movement to recognize, honor, and celebrate the achievements of women worldwide. Since its inception, International Women’s Day has served as a powerful platform to advocate for gender equality, women’s rights, and empowerment in all spheres of life. As we commemorate this significant day, let’s delve into its history, significance, and the ongoing struggle for gender parity.

Inspiration for International Women’s Day began in the early 20th century when women around the world began to rise against oppression and inequality. The day traces back to March 8, 1908, when thousands of women marched through the streets of New York City, demanding shorter work hours, better pay, and voting rights.

March 8th marks a day of reflection, action, and celebration. It serves as a reminder of the progress made towards gender equality while highlighting the challenges that still lie ahead. It’s a day to honor the trailblazing women who have shattered glass ceilings, defied stereotypes, and paved the way for future generations.

“The celebration of International Women’s Day reminds us that women are not a homogeneous group – we are instead a beautiful, diverse tapestry of backgrounds, identities and experiences, says Kerstin V. Woods, TABS Vice President, Solutions and Outbound Marketing. “These differences, even within our own gender group, cannot be marginalized and should instead be recognized, appreciated and celebrated.  It is essential for us to uplift diverse women’s voices across business, industry and the boardroom to fully engage and understand our customers and reach our fullest potential.”

One of Toshiba’s most recent initiatives with the Department of Defense Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) shows our dedication to supporting women.  While the program is open to all military spouses, this population is more than 90% women.  “Toshiba is dedicated to finding ways to employ and support military spouses with the unique obstacles they face daily”, says Jones.

International Women’s Day transcends borders, cultures, and ideologies. It unites women and allies from every corner of the globe in solidarity and determination to create a more inclusive and equitable world. It’s a day to amplify women’s voices, recognize their contributions, and advocate for meaningful change.

As we commemorate Gender Equality Month and International Women’s Day, let’s reflect on the achievements of women past and present, honor their resilience and courage, and recommit ourselves to the ongoing pursuit of gender equality. Together, let’s build a future where every woman and girl can thrive, unencumbered by discrimination, biases, or limitation so that together we can move toward gender equality for all.
